Joan Mullen "Abstraction: Sculptural Installation" Opens

Unbound Visual Arts is presenting an exciting exhibition featuring the artwork of Joan Mullen. It's a mixed media exhibition of sculptural elements created with plaster, oil and wax.  The artist “begins with a feeling, gesture or impulse that she strives to translate into sculptural form.”  To Joan, the individual “sculptures allude to an organic and human maturation that convey both the strength and vulnerability of the human condition.”   Joan Mullen has created a unified installation of colorful objects that fill the gallery and create a sense of intrigue and mystery.   The opening reception is Sat. March 30th from 11 am - 1 pm at the Faneuil Library Art Gallery, 419 Faneuil St., Brighton.  The exhibit closes on May 11, 2013.

Joan Mullen, a Newton artist, is a member of Unbound Visual Arts.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art (BFA) from The Maryland Institute, College of Art and her Master’s of Fine Art (MFA) from Rutgers University.  She is also a member of the Galatea Fine Art Gallery in Boston’s SoWa district.   She has participated in many outdoor and indoor sculpture exhibitions and creates site-specific installation sculpture.   Her artwork is in numerous public and private collections.

Common Art Exhibition opens BIG!

The Common Art opening reception for the exhibition that features 17 artists and nearly 50 original artworks at the Athan's Cafe' Art Gallery in Brighton was huge success.  At least 75-100 people were on hand to see the art, meet and gree the artists, and taste the treats prepared by Athan's. A quote from Heidi Lee, the Artist in Residence for Common Art, says it all:  "I heard so many comments from the artists about how it felt so good to be treated with respect and feel "normal" for a night.. "  Unbound Visual Arts and Athan's were very pleased to be part of this exhibition. Additionally, at least 4 artworks sold at the reception, with 100% of the funds going to the artists.   The exhibition will remain up through Easter Sunday on March 31.
